Voltessa – Stylized 3D Character (Full Production Pipeline)

Hi everyone! I’m excited to share my latest personal project, Voltessa. For this character, I wanted to challenge myself by walking through the entire game-ready production pipeline—starting from the initial concept sketch all the way to a fully playable demo inside Unreal Engine 5. It was an incredible experience bringing her to life and testing the movement using UE5's Game Animation Sample Project (GASP).

Technical Details & Workflow:
Concept & Design: Created the original character design, focusing on strong silhouettes and a vibrant, stylized aesthetic.
High-Poly Sculpting: Detailed anatomy and stylized clothing in ZBrush.
Low-Poly & Retopology: Optimized mesh for real-time performance inside Maya.
Texturing: Handled PBR texturing in Substance 3D Painter, aiming for a clean, stylized look with expressive material definitions.
Rigging & Skinning: Utilized AccuRIG for an efficient and solid base body rig, then built custom rigs in Maya for the hair and belt secondary animations to ensure precise control.
Engine Integration & Physics: Imported the character into Unreal Engine 5, leveraging the GASP project to drive real-time locomotion, while utilizing the Kawaii Physics plugin to achieve smooth, real-time secondary motion for the braids and belt.
